Project FRESH!
What's in Season?

Michigan has many microclimates that support the growth of more than 200 food and fiber products making Michigan the second most agriculturally diverse state in the nation*.

Michigan is the national leader in the production of blueberries, tart cherries, cranberries, summer or “new” potatoes, and cucumbers grown for pickles. Rich farmland in Michigan's Thumb region grows more beans than any other place in the nation and has Michigan leading the nation in the production of black beans.

We also rank third in asparagus and apple production. And when it comes to production of peaches and plums, Michigan ranks fourth in the nation. In fact, Michigan's "Red Haven" peaches are famous throughout the country and have become the most widely planted variety in the world.

The Michigan Availability Guide highlights when the variety of Michigan’s bounty is available and in season. Purchasing fruits and vegetables in season can save you money and provide you with the freshest, tastiest produce ever.

About 1 million Michigan residents are employed in production agriculture and food processing.
